6 Delicious White Wines To Drink Instead Of Sauvignon Blanc

It’s one of the most popular wines in the world — so if you’re sick of it, no one can blame you. Here are some good alternatives.

This is Sauvignon Blanc.

This is Sauvignon Blanc.

Pronounced SEW-vin-yaw BLAHNK. It is a white wine grape of French origin.

It's also the name of the wine made from that grape*.

Sauvignon Blancs are medium bodied and light yellowish-green in color. While generally made "dry," meaning there is no actual sugar in the wine itself, fruity flavors (like citrus, pear, and tropical fruits) can trick the tongue into perceiving sweetness. Herbacious flavors are also common, like green pepper or grass. Its high acidity makes it crisp and refreshing.

*Not all wine made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes uses that for a name. In France, they often call wines by the name of their region rather than the grape used — for example "Sancerre," which is a Sauvignon Blanc named after the Sancerre region.

It's grown all over the world.

The three most iconic Sauvignon Blanc-growing regions are France (particularly the Loire Valley), California (where it's sometimes called Fumé Blanc), and New Zealand's Marlborough region (pictured above). Whereas French Sauvignon Blancs are generally a little more subdued, New Zealand Sauvs have a TON of personality; they've got a super in-your-face aroma of things like gooseberries and fresh-cut grass.

Especially since New Zealand started exporting a lot of Sauvignon Blanc in the last few decades, it's become one of the most available and talked-about white wines around.

13 Boozy Creamsicle Cocktails That Aren't Totally Stupid

Flavored vodka is gross and lot of these use it. BUT, I’m a patriot here to serve you on National Creamsicle Day, so let’s go.

This is straight-up ridiculous.

This is straight-up ridiculous.

snappygourmet.com

The above insanity is a Orange Creamsicletini made from fresh orange juice, milk or cream, WHIPPED-CREAM FLAVORED VODKA, and vanilla instant pudding mix. The problem with this drink is whipped-cream flavored vodka. Instant pudding mix is pushing it, but flavored store-bought vodka is just gross, especially when the flavor is a dairy product. (Add the dairy separately! Use fresh vanilla to get flavor!)

However, some people love flavored vodka, and they are not wrong because taste is taste. I'm a Creamsicle Enthusiast, obviously, so the drink picture above is intriguing. I would try it if it was handed to me, but I probably wouldn't make it. Here are a few I would make.

Coconut Creamsicle Margarita

Coconut Creamsicle Margarita

IDK about the coconut on the rim...

but Grand Marnier + fresh orange juice + tequila + fresh lime juice + coconut water + coconut milk + simple syrup. Nothing wrong with that. Will try. Get the recipe.

Liquid Creamsicle

Liquid Creamsicle

Whipped cream-flavored vodka + orange soda. This might immediately cause you to gain 10 pounds for a not-worth-it reason, but there's something pretty fun about the simplicity so I'd try it once — very cold. Get the recipe.

19 Awesome Ways To Use Empty Food And Drink Containers

If you aren’t making lemonade in a near-empty honey jar then you’re really missing out.

marthastewart.com

doriegreenspan.com

Here's is a great tip from cookbook author Dorie Greenspan: When there's just a smidgen of mustard left in a jar, build your own vinaigrette in it.

To make hers, Greenspan adds a tablespoon of vinegar (you can use white wine vinegar, red wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, anything you like), plus some salt and pepper. At that point, you could also add some chopped fresh herbs, minced garlic, and minced shallots, as Martha Stewart recommends. Close the jar and shake it up. Then add 3 times the amount of olive oil as the amount of vinegar you used. (So if you added 1 tablespoon of vinegar, add 3 tablespoons of oil.) Screw on the top of the jar and shake again. If necessary, add more oil and vinegar, salt and/or pepper little by little until you're happy.
